Yao Qiming, a national model worker： Female track designers stand on the ＂international track＂

" Yao Qiming, a track designer, is the only Asian and the only female track designer among the 12 track designers in the world.

On the morning of November 24th, the national commendation meeting for model workers and advanced workers was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Dr. Yao Qiming, director and senior engineer of the Automotive Sports and Safety Research Center of Tongji University, won the title of "National Model Worker".

The 20 years of China’s automobile development is exactly the 20 years of her struggle for her dream.

In 1996, Yao Qiming majored in road and bridge, in 2000, he studied for a master’s degree in vehicle-wall collision, and in 2009, he studied for a doctoral degree in track safety. With an indomitable spirit, she studied and studied hard. In Yao Qiming’s diary, she wrote the youth declaration: I don’t care if I lose at the starting line, I only care if I win at the finish line! Maybe I can’t change the ordinary status quo, but I must have a dream to change the status quo! Maybe I can’t change the world, but I must do something for it!

In 2004, F1 landed in China, where she became the chief designer of Shanghai International Automobile Street Race and the only external expert member of China Automobile Federation. In three months, a 10-square-meter attic and tens of thousands of lines of code, she simulated the theoretical direction, speed curve and sliding trajectory of the car driving on the track. The track design scheme completed on this basis successfully passed the FIA safety simulation test and was praised by experts at home and abroad as "a milestone in the development history of China automobile sports".

In this design, Yao Qiming gave full play to his English advantages of high scores in GRE and TOEFL, browsed all the websites of the International Automobile Sports Federation (FIA) in a relatively short time, and used his own accumulation in the field of crash walls to put forward a new and more economical and reasonable structural scheme of crash walls for racetracks, which is suitable for China’s national conditions. This scheme has changed the design scheme of the track crash wall used by FIA for decades, and changed the straight slope outside the trapezoidal wall into a curved slope. This "bold" move was appreciated by FIA safety consultants, which increased the function of the crash wall, prolonged its service life and saved 1/4 building materials for the country. That year, she was only 26 years old.

Safety specification is the most important thing in track design, which has always been a blank in the field of track design in China. In 2005, when preparing for the establishment of Changchun Circuit, Yao Qiming, as the chief designer, began to independently develop the track simulation system and speed calculation model. After three months of "closed training", she finally simulated the theoretical direction, speed curve and sliding trajectory of the car driving on the track, and the track design scheme completed on this basis successfully passed the FIA safety simulation test.

Without getting any test parameters from the FIA, the simulation results of track safety deduced by Yao Qiming were basically consistent with the simulation test results of the FIA, which shocked the FIA. At this point, China officially has the qualification to design an international circuit.

With "cross-border" and "innovation", Yao Qiming completed the "counterattack".

Design can’t go against the law

Among the hundreds of tracks designed by Yao Qiming, the most impressive one is Ordos International Circuit, which is the 12th track designed by Yao Qiming.

At the beginning of the design, it was suggested that "Shanghai (the track of the international circuit) is a ‘ On ’ Word, then Erdos City will come with a capital e! "

Yao Qiming directly refused: "The track is not a LOGO, and the track cannot be simply copied."

Ordos is the hometown of Genghis Khan, and the Mongolians are the people on horseback. "How can we let the world feel the historical leap of this city from the horseback age to the racing age through the track design?"

Yao Qiming thought of horses. After numerous field investigations and in-depth experiences, she finally found the soul of the track. The designed "horse" track contains the connotation of "horseback civilization".

But a bigger technical problem has emerged. There is a big temperature difference between day and night in Erdos, and there is a crack on the asphalt pavement almost every 5 to 10 meters. Experts are unanimous in saying that the pavement cracking in northwest China can only be jointing, but can’t be eliminated. If the track is cracked like this, it is a direct threat to the life of racers.

Yao Qiming didn’t give up her exploration. She studied interdisciplinary and read hundreds of documents. Without increasing any investment, she worked out a solution in one month. In the end, there was no frost heaving crack in Ordos International Circuit for eight years.

"This is a road that needs innovation. Only by constantly innovating technology can we solve every problem encountered in the circuit and quickly walk to the forefront of the world, lead the industry and change the industry. This road is full of hardships, because any minor mistake may lead to the driver’s death. We need to find a balance point between theory and reality, and the car is changing every year, and this balance point has been changing. " Yao Qiming has created "China No.1" and "World No.1" for more than 30 times in more than 150 circuit designs. Regarding the achievements, Yao Qiming always said that he was lucky enough to climb to the top of the field of circuit design because he caught up with the good times, came to the right place and met good opportunities.
