CCTV News:Liao Xiuying, an 87-year-old man who lives in Fenggang Village, Rentian Town, Ruijin, Jiangxi Province, has a deep understanding of the changes in the old district. She never imagined that when she started pickling and selling salted duck eggs at the age of 16, these small salted duck eggs actually became the "golden eggs" for the old district to get rid of poverty and become rich, and took the east wind of the Internet and embarked on the dining tables all over the country.

Descendants of the Red Army

Liao Xiuying, 87, was born in Guangdong. During the Japanese invasion of China, she was sent to Ruijin for asylum by her parents who participated in the revolution. After her parents died for her country, she took root in this red land.

Because of the poor conditions at home, Liao Xiuying began to pickle salted duck eggs at the age of 16. For decades, she has developed a good skill in pickling salted duck eggs, and all the neighbors praised her salted duck eggs for their delicious taste.

The salted duck eggs marinated by Liao Xiuying were selected from local farmed ducks. The selected duck eggs were washed with clear water and dried, then wrapped with yellow mud, salt and pot ash, and marinated for 40 days. The duck eggs preserved by this ancient method are moderately salty, not only delicious, but also fine, tender, loose, sandy and oily.

"When I was young, I often went to the village to sell. At that time, I sold dozens of them at most one day, barely making a living." Because of the inconvenient transportation, the price of Liao Xiuying’s salted duck eggs has been very low.

An accidental opportunity and a network cable completely changed Liao Xiuying’s small business.

The first time in the octogenarian "touching the net"

In 2015, all kinds of e-commerce service stations mushroomed in rural areas. At that time, the postal service went to Fenggang Village to look for a pilot. After investigation, it soon decided to cooperate with Liao Xiuying.

"Can you sell salted duck eggs on the computer? Can you make money without leaving home? " When the staff of the e-commerce operation center of China Post Ruijin Branch found Liao Xiuying, she was puzzled. Soon, however, the first "Post Tesco" site funded by Ruijin Post settled in Liao Xiuying’s home. The site was mainly managed by her granddaughter Zeng Meiyu, who mainly promoted her hand-cured salted duck eggs.

Because salted duck eggs are delicious and unique in taste, Liao Xiuying’s family sells hundreds of salted duck eggs a month, but thousands a day, and at most more than 4,000 a day. In addition to the increase in sales, profits are also doubling. In the past, one extra salted duck egg in 1 yuan could be sold to 3 yuan through e-commerce sales price.

Now, "Grandma Liao salted duck eggs" has registered a trademark and become a well-known brand, one of which can be sold to 4 yuan. Brand management has made "Grandma Liao salted duck eggs" change from "I am looking for a buyer" to "the buyer is looking for me". Products are in short supply, and orders are constantly flowing. Liao Xiuying has also become a well-known "duck egg red man".

Drive the villagers out of poverty and become rich

Fenggang village is an old red area and one of the key poverty-stricken villages in the national "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", with more than 100 poor households. Liao Xiuying said: "Being rich is not rich, but it is rich to drive the villagers out of poverty together!"

In December 2015, Liao Xiuying mobilized the surrounding poor households to set up the "Liao Xiuying Salted Duck Egg Cooperative" with a registered capital of 400,000 yuan. The cooperative adopts the industrialized business model of "e-commerce+cooperative+poor households", and provides ducklings to members and poor households free of charge according to the six unified principles of "unified brand, unified variety, unified method, unified technology, unified purchase and unified sales". Farmers raise and lay eggs according to requirements, and the cooperative re-prices and recycles salted duck eggs, which are sold through the local e-commerce platform, thus building a village-based industry of "front shop and back village".

Since its establishment, through the online and offline mode, Liao Xiuying salted duck egg cooperative has sold 2 million salted duck eggs with a monthly net profit of 180,000 yuan. At the same time, it has attracted 32 members from poor households and helped them increase their income by more than 20,000 yuan annually.

Liu Xiaoqing, a 56-year-old villager, used to grow lotus seeds with her husband on a few acres of thin land at home. The annual family net income was only over 10,000 yuan, and she was a poor household in the village. After joining Liao Xiuying’s salted duck egg cooperative, she was responsible for washing duck eggs. As long as 1,000 duck eggs were washed every day, 80 yuan’s income would be more than 2,000 yuan a month.

On October 16, 2016, at the commendation meeting of the National Poverty Alleviation Award, Liao Xiuying won the Endeavour Award. She said: "I hope that the online shop business is getting better and better, and it can also drive more people to get rich. At present, there are more than 100 poor households in our village, and there are now 32 cooperative members. After the expansion of the cooperative in the future, we hope that more people will join in, which will promote our good specialties and let everyone live a good life."
